About
Sophie Wereley is a writer of fantasy and science fiction. Her stories have appeared in Lady Churchill's Rosebud Wristlet, and in publications since set adrift in the great pixel sea. She was previously an editor at Shimmer, a Hugo-nominated SFF semiprozine. Her writing has been supported by Hedgebrook, the Martha's Vineyard Institute for Creative Writing, and Futurescapes. She is an MFA candidate in fiction at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign.
Though she was raised in Maryland, her life has snaked through six other states and the District of Columbia. A child of diaspora, her work is inspired by the edges of things, by the boundaries where old and new intermingle, and by spaces between and beyond. She lives with her husband, their daughter, and one cat.
When she is not writing, Sophie is a medical speech-language pathologist working primarily in critical access and safety net hospitals. Her expertise includes acquired neurological disorders of cognition, language, and swallowing.
